WELCOME

We are Chicago Non-Public Schools' Science Exposition, Inc. We are part of a statewide organization. The organization known as the Illinois Junior Academy of Science. There are twelve regions throughout the state. We are Region Two. IJAS sets the rules and guidelines that we follow. When you join the state as well as the region, you receive a guidebook stating the rules, regulations, and the format that we use for our science fair. There are three areas of the science fair:

 1. SCIENCE PROJECT: A full detailed science experiment is conducted by the student making full use of the scientific method. A scientific paper and board for display accompanies the project to aid in the judging process.

 2. PAPER SESSION: The student does a science project and follows all of the same steps as above, but only presents the experiment in a written and oral format. The paper session follows specific guidelines for the written and oral presentation of the experiment. Please refer to the guidebook for specifics.

 3. ESSAY: Is strictly a research paper. A student can choose from a variety of topics to research and write about. The Essay is then presented orally, usually at the paper sessions. The rules are a bit different regarding the essay paper. The guidebook should always be referred to when needed.

Exhibition of the projects/papers/essays happens at different times. Projects are judged individually from papers/essays at a different time and place using a different judging form and criteria. All exhibitors are judged and receive an award. There is also special judging done by outside contributors as well as our own. The top winners go down to Champaign-Urbana in May to compete with the other eleven regions and their top winners.
