Mathematical Autobiography

Due: Tuesday, September 15
 

Task: Write a brief "mathematical autobiography" describing your lifetime experience, good and bad, with mathematics. Your narrative should include a summary of the mathematics and computer science courses you have had up to this point highlighting key courses or events. Be specific about which features were important to you both positively or negatively. If you have taken Quantitative Reasoning before, please briefly relate your experience. Your narrative should conclude with  include your expectations for this course and what you think you need in the way of mathematics preparation for your future.

Purpose:

  1. for you to reflect on your experience with mathematics over your lifetime

  2. to prompt you to be reflective about own mathematics learning

  3. for me, as instructor, to get to know you better

  4. to give you experience with a variety of writing genres in this course

Length: 1.5 to 2 double spaced type-written pages

Essay Requirements:

  1. Your essay must give a coherent description of your experience.
     

  2. Your essay should have a sufficient number of examples and details that support the main assertions.
     

  3. Your document should be "reader friendly"-free of grammatical and formatting errors that distract the reader.
     

  4. Your essay should include your expectations for this course and what you think you may need in the way of mathematics preparation for your future.
